Maintaining Your Jinma Tractor in the Off-Season

The maintenance of your Jinma tractor and other equipment in the off-season is just as important as the maintenance you perform during peak usage. Any time a tractor or a piece of heavy equipment isn’t going to be in frequent use, check over this Jinma Tractor Maintenance: Preparing For Winter list before storing it because by taking care of your equipment now, you reduce your chances of a breakdown when the busy months roll around.

Here’s a quick reference for three main steps:

  • Start by giving your tractor a good cleaning with soap and water.
  • After that is done, make a thorough visual inspection to see if anything is leaking or in need of repairs. A complete engine inspection is encouraged.
  • Next, make sure all the fluid levels are correct. Check the engine oil, transmission fluid, and hydraulic fluid, and make sure the diesel tank is full of diesel to discourage corrosion. This is a good time to check water pumps and more for proper quality.

Please note: Do not drain the fuel and run the engine until it dies. When dealing with a diesel engine, this is not the correct procedure. It will be very difficult when you attempt to get it running again after the off-season.

Storing Your Jinma Tractor

If you plan to leave your Jinma tractor in storage for an extended period of time, try to make sure someone will be available to start it up for about 20 minutes at least once a month. It’s also a good idea to change the engine oil and filters before storage, so your tractor will be ready to go when there is work to be done.

Treat the diesel fuel with an additive that meets the requirements of the season before putting the tractor away. Check and clean the radiator screen if necessary, as a dirty screen can inhibit the flow of air into the radiator, causing the tractor to overheat. The shroud is easy to clean after removal, and it shouldn’t take more than 5 or 10 minutes to remove any brush or build-up.

If the tractor battery is weak, check over the electrical system to make sure nothing is drawing power with the tractor off. It may just be an old battery that is going dead and the cells aren’t functioning properly, but if that’s the case, it is a good time to replace it before storing it for the off-season.

Storing Your Jinma Tractor Implements

The process for storing implements such as a PTO Wood Chipper is fairly similar: Make sure they are clean and well-oiled before you put them up for storage, and if anything needs to be repaired, do this before storing as well. If it’s an implement that utilizes blades for cutting, this is a great time to sharpen them. It may also be a good idea to store the blades indoors or in a covered barn to prevent rust or corrosion. Check out more tips for maintaining your PTO Wood Chipper

This is a very basic guide to off-season maintenance. If the tractor has been running rough or is having other larger problems, you may want to have a mechanic come take a look before putting it in storage. Taking the time to do these things now will prevent future headaches, keep your equipment running longer, and increase productivity.
